AI startup Anthropic is reportedly developing voice features for its chatbot, Claude, signaling a move toward more natural interactions with its AI models.
Anthropic’s chief product officer, Mike Krieger, confirmed the company is working on voice-enabled experiences to the Financial Times.
“We are doing some work around how Claude for desktop evolves… if it is going to be operating your computer, a more natural user interface might be to [speak to it],” Krieger said. “We will do voice internally… it is a useful modality to have. We have prototypes.”
The report also revealed that Anthropic has held discussions with Amazon—one of its key investors and partners—as well as voice-focused AI startup ElevenLabs, to potentially enhance future voice capabilities for Claude. However, no formal agreements have been reached.
This development follows a growing trend among AI companies to integrate voice interaction, making AI assistants more accessible and user-friendly.
