The world’s largest online retailer, Amazon, is expected to lay off 10,000 of its employees.

According to a report by New York Times citing anonymous sources, the development will target the devices group, including the one responsible for the Alexa voice assistant, along with the retail division and human resources.

Given that Amazon has over 1.6 million employees worldwide, the alleged 10,000 employees represent less than 1% of its workforce.

Amazon Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy had earlier vowed to streamline operations amid slowing sales growth and economic uncertainty.

It would be also recalled that other firms like Stripe, Twitter, and Meta have also laid off thousands of their staff in the last few months.
