Airbus overtakes Boeing as world’s most-delivered jetliner

European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has achieved a major milestone, overtaking Boeing to claim the title of the world’s most-delivered jetliner.

Industry data from UK-based consultancy, Cirium, shows that Airbus’s A320 family reached 12,260 deliveries as of Tuesday, surpassing Boeing’s long-standing 737 record.

The milestone was reached with the delivery of a new A320 to Saudi carrier Flynas, according to Cirium analyst, Rob Morris.

Airbus has not yet commented on the data, which marks a defining moment in the decades-long rivalry between the two aerospace giants.

Together, Airbus and Boeing have delivered over 25,000 single-aisle jets worldwide.

Originally designed for routes between major hubs, the aircraft have since become the backbone of low-cost carriers, a market Airbus successfully captured after Boeing scaled back production following the 9/11 downturn.

Already leading in annual aircraft deliveries, Airbus’s latest achievement underscores its dominance in the narrow-body market and caps a 40-year transatlantic competition shaped by contrasting strategies and deep industrial partnerships among its founding nations — France, Germany, Spain, and the UK.
