Artificial intelligence startup, Cursor, which is now officially part of SpaceX, has launched Origin, a new code-hosting platform designed to provide developers with many of the core functions available on GitHub.
Origin allows developers to collaborate on codebases, browse and edit projects, manage pull requests and store code in repositories.
The launch represents an expansion of Cursor’s business beyond its AI-powered code editor and automated web development services.
“Your GitHub repos can sit alongside the ones Cursor hosts,” Cursor says in its blog. “Connect GitHub to Cursor, pick your org, and you’ll see the repos you can sync. Select one and Cursor pulls it in.”
The launch of Origin comes amid growing concerns over a perceived decline in GitHub’s service reliability.
On the same day Cursor introduced the platform, GitHub experienced a prolonged global outage, with several of its services reportedly degraded for more than six hours and error rates approaching 20 per cent worldwide.
