Abuja airport runway closed after jet tyre burst

FG reopens Lagos airport runway after 11-month repairs

The runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, was temporarily shut down on Thursday afternoon.

This disruption was caused by a private jet that experienced a tyre burst upon landing at the airport.

The incident reportedly took place around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, which led to the subsequent temporary shutdown of the runway as emergency procedures were activated.

Despite the temporary closure and disruption, authorities quickly confirmed that the affected aircraft had been cleared from the runway, allowing normal flight operations to resume.

Confirming the details of the event, Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, spoke to news media regarding the incident. He attributed the disruption directly to the tyre burst experienced by the private aircraft during its landing sequence.

Achimugu provided an update on the situation, stating, “I was informed that a private aircraft experienced a tyre burst on landing. But it has been cleared off the runway and operations are back to normal.”
