The Abia State Government is set to collaborate with an Israeli firm to enhance agricultural value chains, particularly in poultry, piggery, and other livestock ventures.
As part of this initiative, Governor Alex Otti has announced plans to revive the dormant Ogwe Golden Chicken in Ukwa West Local Government Area to drive economic growth.
He also emphasized the government’s commitment to making strategic investments to boost livestock production in the state.
Governor Otti made this statement while hosting a delegation from the Israeli agro-business investment company, AgroTop Israel, led by Business Development Manager Ofer Zuntz, along with their development partners from Max Agro Farm.
He stated that his administration would revive similar abandoned state investments and assured that the government’s team would engage further with the investors to explore the concession of Ogwe Golden Chicken, aiming to boost poultry production in the state.
“Farming generally and specifically, poultry is an important aspect of our strategy. In the past, there had been poultry farms around the State that actually did well. One of them is the Ogwe Golden Chicken. It has been abandoned for a while but we have plans to get it back to life just like we are getting back to life, a lot of other abandoned industries and projects.
“So, we are not going to start from ground zero because there is something on ground. It may have become obsolete; technology may have moved but at least we have a location. By the time we ask all the questions and we are satisfied that you are the right partners, we can begin to think of concessioning the farm to you and your partners”, he said.
The governor found it noteworthy that the Israeli company operates in over 50 countries and expressed the state’s interest in partnering with them to develop various agricultural value chains, including piggery.
In his remark, the Business Development Manager, Ofer Zuntz,
expressed interest in partnering with Abia State in agriculture, particularly in livestock, including poultry and piggery.
He noted that collaboration with the state government would create value for all partners.
