Binance replaces CFO amid $6.3bn cryptocurrency theft

Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, has announced the exit of its Chief Financial Officer, Kaiser Ng, days after hackers reportedly stole about $6.3bn in digital assets from the platform.

The company confirmed that Ng, who has worked at Binance for more than five years, will be succeeded by Justin Yek, a former finance executive at payments firm Airwallex.

Binance co-Chief Executive Officer Yi He announced the leadership change in a statement on Saturday, November 7, 2026, according to Bloomberg,

The development comes days after what has been described as the largest cryptocurrency theft in history, renewing concerns about cybersecurity risks and vulnerabilities facing digital asset exchanges worldwide.

The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation has attributed the cyberattack to hackers linked to North Korea.

Binance Confirms Planned CFO Transition

Yi He explained that Ng’s departure was part of a six-month transition process, suggesting that the leadership change had been planned before the recent security breach.

Ng will be succeeded by Justin Yek, who previously served as vice-president of finance at Airwallex, a global financial technology company.

Yek said he was looking forward to taking charge of Binance’s financial operations as the cryptocurrency exchange pursues further international expansion.

The leadership change comes as Binance works to address the fallout from a major cyberattack that led to the theft of approximately $6.3bn in digital assets.

On October 31, the FBI identified North Korea as responsible for the attack, further highlighting concerns over state-sponsored cybercrime targeting digital asset platforms.
