Apple’s first foldable phone faces cracked screen complaints

A growing number of owners of Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, have reported cracks developing along the inner screen’s central crease shortly after purchase.

The device went on sale on Friday, although the issue appears to affect only a minority of units, according to Bloomberg.

Some users said they heard a crunching sound while unfolding the phone, only to discover cracks running along the centre of the display.

Others reported white patches or lines appearing on the screen after just hours or days of use.

Meanwhile, repair specialist iFixit suspects that a component in the phone’s hinge mechanism may be pressing against the display and causing the damage.

Apple has yet to comment publicly on the reports, but company staff have indicated that a team is investigating the issue.
