Ikeja Electric blames reduced supply hours on grid allocation shortfall

Ikeja Electric has blamed the reduced hours of electricity supply across its network on a shortfall in the power allocated to it from the national grid.

The electricity distribution company disclosed this in a public notice shared on its official X account on Monday, October 19, 2026.

It explained that the electricity currently allocated to its network was not enough to maintain the usual hours of supply to customers.

In the notice, titled “Power Supply Constraints Due to Reduced Grid Allocation,” the company acknowledged the disruptions customers have experienced.

“We wish to inform customers across Ikeja Electric network that the reduced hours of electricity supply is due to a shortfall in the amount of power currently allocated to our network from the national grid,” the statement read.

The company apologised for the inconvenience and appealed to affected customers for patience while efforts continued to improve electricity availability.

It explained that the situation was beyond its control, as the amount of electricity available for distribution across its network was limited.

Ikeja Electric disclosed that it was working with relevant stakeholders to address the shortfall and raise the volume of electricity supplied to customers.

It assured consumers that the available power would be distributed as efficiently and fairly as possible.

The company also pledged to provide regular updates as the situation develops.

The announcement comes amid complaints about inconsistent electricity supply in parts of Lagos served by the distribution company.

Ikeja Electric had issued a similar notice on October 5, citing insufficient allocation from the national grid.

The recurring supply challenges have raised concerns among households and businesses that depend on electricity for their daily activities.

However, the company did not disclose the amount of electricity currently allocated to its network or give a timeline for restoring normal supply hours.

It maintained that it remained committed to improving electricity availability and keeping customers informed about further developments.
