Meta has unveiled what it describes as the most capable open-weight model in the United States, dubbed Muse Spark Open.
The model is also designed to run on Mac computers.
According to evaluation results released by Meta on Thursday, the new model features 816 billion parameters and a context window of one million tokens, with the company claiming it outperforms other popular open-weight models.
Muse Spark Open is natively multimodal and designed to handle complex coding tasks and agentic workflows. It can also run locally on Apple computers.
However, running the model locally requires substantial computing power, with at least 1 terabyte of RAM needed, according to Engadget.
The model is expected to perform best on a Mac Studio equipped with Apple’s M5 Ultra chip.
Meta said it also tested Muse Spark Open with DaVinci Resolve, a high-end video editing software, where the model demonstrated its ability to review and crop footage.
Open-weight models offer several advantages over closed, proprietary alternatives, including potentially lower operating costs, greater transparency and more flexibility for developers.
Meta said Muse Spark Open is now available through several application programming interface platforms.
