Popular Nigerian TikToker and content creator, Peller, has purchased the entire groundnut stock of a mother and daughter for ₦1 million during a livestream, after learning that the pair had used only ₦3,000 to stock their business.
The encounter occurred on Monday, August 31, 2026, when the woman and her daughter joined Peller’s livestream and displayed the groundnuts they sell. When Peller asked how much they had invested in the stock, the woman said it cost ₦3,000. He subsequently asked her to name a price for all the goods, and she requested ₦1 million.
Peller agreed to the amount and transferred the money during the livestream, subsequently asking the mother and daughter to check their account and confirm that they had received it. However, the mood changed when Peller expressed disappointment at the daughter’s seemingly calm reaction to the money.
He questioned why she did not appear more excited and suggested that he could reverse the transaction. “If na me dem give one million naira, I go happy. I go show say I appreciate am. I go thank the person specially,” he said. The young woman pleaded with him and apologised, while her mother also appealed for calm. Peller eventually decided not to reverse the payment. The episode has since generated widespread discussion online.
Some Nigerians criticised the daughter’s response, with @suzzy_cute1 writing, “Honestly I don’t blame you Peller but forgive her please.” @agatha_lawson_ said, “A whole one million ooo Kai, I go swim,” while @aliceakraoritsema remarked that she had also noticed the lack of “joy and jubilation”. Another user, @akinola.e.bolanle, described it as a whole ₦1 million and appealed to Peller not to be angry.
Other reactions were even more emphatic. @allie_oyindamola said that even though she earns a salary, receiving ₦100,000 for free would make her dance and hug the giver in appreciation. On YEN.com.gh, @It_Is_West described the daughter’s reaction as “one nonchalant reaction to 1m”, while @solotizzy said receiving ₦1 million for her mother on a live video would have made her “rolling on the floor and breaking things in the house”.
However, not everyone agreed that gratitude must be expressed through dramatic excitement. In a subsequent video, the mother and daughter apologised and explained that the incident happened late at night and that they lived in a storey building where screaming would have attracted the attention of neighbours. Another commenter, @tife_thywo, argued that people can show gratitude in different ways, saying visible excitement is not the only measure of appreciation.
The incident has consequently shifted from a simple act of generosity into a broader social media debate about gratitude, expectations and how recipients should respond to unexpected financial gifts.
