Veteran TV host Frank Edoho has opened up about the modest salary he earned during his early years as host of the Nigerian edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, despite the glamorous image many viewers associated with the role.
Speaking during a recent interview, Edoho revealed that he earned ₦160,000 monthly during his first two years on the popular television game show.
According to him, the demands of the job required him to appear polished and successful at all times, even though his earnings at the time did not reflect the public perception of his status.
“My first two years’ salary at ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ was ₦160,000 monthly, but I had to put on a suit and act like I owned all the money,” he said.
The broadcaster, who became widely known through the hit show, said his financial breakthrough came after securing a deal with telecommunications company MTN Nigeria.
Edoho explained that when the company asked what he wanted to be paid, he mentioned a figure without much expectation, only for the offer to be accepted immediately.
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? first aired in Nigeria in 2004, with Edoho serving as host for over a decade and becoming one of the country’s most recognisable television personalities.
