The United States Mission Nigeria has spotlighted Nigerian-American entrepreneur George Azih for his contribution to financial technology and innovation in the United States.
In a post shared by the U.S. Mission Nigeria on Friday, the mission described Azih as an entrepreneur driving innovation in financial technology through FinQuery, the Atlanta-based accounting technology company he founded, formerly known as LeaseQuery.
The recognition, shared under the hashtag #AmericanExcellence, highlighted the role of Azih’s technology in helping businesses simplify complex accounting processes, particularly lease accounting and financial compliance.
According to the post, FinQuery’s CPA-approved accounting software is used by more than 10,000 financial professionals. The platform was developed to address challenges associated with lease accounting and has since expanded into a broader suite of accounting automation and financial contract management solutions.
Azih founded LeaseQuery in 2011 after identifying significant difficulties businesses faced in managing lease accounting. His professional background in accounting research and technical accounting at a Fortune 500 company exposed him to the complexity of lease accounting and ultimately helped inspire the creation of the technology company.
Over the years, the company evolved from a specialised lease-accounting platform into FinQuery, reflecting its expansion into other areas of financial and accounting automation. In 2024, FinQuery announced a $25 million investment from Periphas Capital and Lavelle Capital to accelerate product innovation, growth and strategic acquisitions.
The company has also recorded significant growth in its professional user base. FinQuery said in 2025 that its platform served more than 36,000 professionals and over 8,500 organisations, while continuing to develop AI-powered tools for accounting automation, lease compliance and contract management.
Azih’s entrepreneurial achievements have previously attracted recognition from major American business institutions. In 2020, Ernst & Young named him a finalist for its Entrepreneur Of The Year Southeast Award, while Goldman Sachs recognised him among its 100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs at its 2020 Builders + Innovators Summit.
Despite the description in the latest U.S. Mission Nigeria post identifying him as FinQuery’s founder and CEO, Azih no longer occupies the chief executive position. FinQuery announced in January 2025 that Joe Schab, formerly the company’s president and chief operating officer, had become CEO, while Azih transitioned to Founder and Executive Chairman.
In his current role, Azih continues to provide strategic direction to the company. FinQuery’s official profile identifies him as its Founder and highlights his expertise in lease accounting, technical accounting and accounting research.
Beyond his corporate achievements, Azih’s story represents the growing contribution of Nigerian-born professionals and entrepreneurs to the American technology and business ecosystem. His journey from accounting and technical research to building a technology company serving thousands of finance professionals illustrates how specialised expertise can be transformed into scalable technology solutions.
The U.S. Mission Nigeria’s recognition therefore places Azih among Nigerian-American professionals whose work is contributing to innovation, entrepreneurship and economic activity in the United States.
For Nigeria, the recognition also offers another example of the global impact of Nigerians in technology, finance and entrepreneurship, particularly at a time when financial technology and artificial intelligence are increasingly reshaping how businesses manage accounting, compliance and financial operations.
