Senior executives at Anthropic are set to meet with Trump administration officials in Washington, D.C., on Monday in an effort to address the company’s latest dispute with the United States government, according to a source familiar with the matter.
The company recently received an export control order on Friday, citing national security concerns and directing it to block access to its newest AI systems, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, for “any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States,” according to a statement.
In response, Anthropic disabled access to the models for all users globally to comply with the directive.
The move adds a new layer of tension in the company’s ongoing strained relationship with U.S. authorities, following an earlier dispute with the Department of Defense.
In March, the Pentagon designated Anthropic as a supply chain risk, effectively barring defense contractors from using its technology over national security concerns.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth commented on the latest directive in a post on X on Saturday, saying that recent developments further validate the decision to blacklist the company.
Anthropic had filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration seeking to overturn the designation, and the case is still ongoing.
