Again, LIRS extends individual tax filing deadline

LIRS sets January 31st deadline for filing tax returns

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service has announced a further extension of the deadline for filing of individual annual income tax returns to Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

In a press release issued on Friday, the agency expressed appreciation to taxpayers for their continued compliance and commitment to fulfilling their tax obligations. The LIRS noted that following the previous extension to April 14, 2026, there has been a significant increase in traffic on its eTax platform as more citizens strive to meet the deadline.

The agency stated that the additional extension was granted to provide all taxpayers with adequate opportunity to successfully complete their filings, especially in view of the overwhelming response on the platform. It emphasised that the move is aimed at enhancing taxpayer convenience while upholding the integrity and accuracy of submissions.

Taxpayers are reminded that filing of annual income tax returns is a statutory obligation, and they are strongly encouraged to utilise this final extension to meet their civic responsibility.

The Executive Chairman of LIRS, Dr. Ayodele Subair, reiterated that all filings must be completed electronically via the official LIRS eTax platform at
https://etax.lirs.net
, which remains the only approved channel for submission. Taxpayers experiencing difficulties or needing assistance are advised to visit any LIRS office or contact the agency through its official communication channels.
