Samsung is officially shutting down its messaging app.
The company posted an “End of Service Announcement” on its website, confirming that the Samsung Messages app will be discontinued by July.
Users are advised to switch to Google Messages as their default messaging app.
For Samsung Messages users in the U.S., switching to Google Messages brings RCS features, allowing high-quality media sharing, group chats, and real-time typing indicators across any smartphone.
While Galaxy owners may lose some Samsung Messages customization options, Google Messages adds unique benefits, including generative AI from Gemini that can remix photos directly in chats.
Additionally, it makes it easier to move conversations seamlessly between smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches.
The Samsung Messages app remains available on the Galaxy Store for now, but Samsung said the exact end-of-service date will be announced within the app itself.
