Abuja airport registers over 10,000 Go Cashless cards

The Airport Manager of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Mr. Ahmed Danjuma, has confirmed that over 10,000 Go Cashless cards have now been registered at the facility.

This development forms part of the nationwide rollout of the Federal Government’s cashless tollgate policy by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.

Danjuma made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja.

He explained that the temporary traffic buildup recorded on Monday and early Tuesday resulted from the full enforcement of the policy.

“We began implementing the cashless system on March 1. This is part of the government’s drive to end cash payments at toll points and improve transparency,” Danjuma said.

“If you approach any Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria gate expecting to pay cash, you will be disappointed because no one will accept it anymore.”

Although registration for the FAAN Go Cashless card opened in August 2025, Danjuma noted that many airport users delayed until the final implementation date.

Danjuma added that the reform aligns with the broader objectives of the Federal Government of Nigeria to strengthen revenue collection and block leakages.

“This policy promotes efficiency and accountability something previous administrations could not fully achieve,” he stated.

Several airport users who spoke with NAN welcomed the reform, describing it as a step toward modernising Nigeria’s aviation operations.

“This is long overdue. It will make tollgate operations smoother and more transparent,” one commuter said.

Another traveller added: “We only hope the revenue generated will be used to upgrade airport infrastructure across the country.”
