Alphabet is rolling out three new Gemini models on Tuesday, including its strongest push yet to challenge Anthropic’s lead in cybersecurity, as the company seeks to demonstrate progress across a product pipeline facing delays and intensifying competition.
The new Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber model is designed to identify and patch software vulnerabilities.
It will initially be offered through a limited-access pilot to governments and trusted partners. Google said the specialised model operates at a lower cost per token than its larger models.
The launch could help Google close the gap with Anthropic in cybersecurity, an area where the AI company has gained an early advantage in automated code defence.

Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, meanwhile, is Google’s fastest and most affordable model in the 3.5 series, designed for high-volume workloads and smaller tasks within larger AI-agent systems.
The expanded lineup underscores Google’s strategy of using lower costs and greater efficiency to compensate for its slower progress in several key product categories.
Data from Artificial Analysis shows that Gemini Flash already undercuts comparable models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Chinese competitors on cost.
Google said Gemini 3.6 Flash, the more capable of the two new models, is cheaper to run per task than GPT-5.6 Terra Max, Kimi K3 and Qwen 3.7 Max, while Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite is available at only a fraction of the cost.
