United States President Donald Trump on Thursday unveiled the TrumpRx.gov website, a self-branded platform designed to help consumers access discounted prescription drugs directly from pharmaceutical companies.
The website will act as a central hub, directing users to drugmakers’ direct-to-consumer sites where they can obtain medications at reduced prices.
The launch took place during an event at the White House South Court Auditorium in Washington, DC, on February 5, 2026.
Trump announced the initiative as part of efforts to address voter frustration over the high cost of living ahead of the November midterm elections, where Republicans risk losing control of Congress.
“Starting tonight, dozens of the most commonly used prescription drugs will be available at dramatic discounts for all consumers,” Trump said at an event at the White House.
“Americans have long been paying the highest drug prices anywhere in the world… the American people were effectively subsidizing the cost of drugs for the entire world.”
Trump highlighted agreements with pharmaceutical giants Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk to offer their popular GLP-1 weight-loss drugs at significantly reduced prices through the platform.
Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic will drop from more than $1,000 to $199 a month, while Eli Lilly’s Wegovy will be reduced from $1,300 to $199, according to Trump.
The website indicates that these introductory prices apply for the first two months, after which costs will gradually increase.
During the announcement, officials brought a woman on stage who was presented as the first person to use TrumpRx to obtain discounted fertility treatment medication.
“We’re gonna have a lot of Trump babies with these costs,” Mehmet Oz, a TV doctor who now serves as Trump’s administrator for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, said as he introduced her.
The White House stated that the website launches with savings on more than 40 popular prescription drugs.
Users can search for their required medication on TrumpRx.gov, print out a coupon, and present it at a pharmacy to purchase the drug at the discounted rate.
Trump has secured a series of pricing agreements with major drug companies, persuading them to adopt “Most Favored Nation” pricing that aligns US prices with the lowest rates offered in other wealthy nations.
In return, the companies have received incentives, including relief from the tariffs Trump imposed on various countries since returning to office last year.
Trump has also pressured several nations, including Britain and France, into pharmaceutical pricing deals, while repeatedly mocking French President Emmanuel Macron’s objections on the matter.
Although Trump initially described voter concerns about affordability as a “hoax” promoted by Democrats, he has recently intensified efforts to lower consumer costs in the lead-up to the midterms.
Polls indicate that Trump faces low approval ratings, especially on economic issues, raising Republican fears of losing congressional majorities.
Trump has warned that a midterm defeat could lead to his impeachment for a third time.
