President Bola Tinubu has requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, as Chairman of the Universal Service Provision Fund board.
In a letter read during Wednesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu said the nomination complies with Section 116 of the Nigerian Communications Commission Act, 2003.
“In accordance with the provisions of section 116 of the Nigerian Communications Commission Act 2003, I am pleased to present, for confirmation by the senate, the appointment of the underlisted eight persons as chairman and members of the board of Universal Service Provision Board (USPF),” the letter read.
Other nominees include Idris Olorunimbe as vice-chairman; Abraham Oshidami, Rimini Makama, and Aliyu Edogi Aliyu representing the Ministry of Communications; Joseph B. Faluyi representing the Ministry of Finance; and Auwal Mohammed representing the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
Other nominees include Uzoma Dozie, Peter Bankole, Abayomi Anthony Okanlawon, and Gafar Oluwasegun Quadri.
President Tinubu urged the Senate to give the request prompt consideration.
“While it is my hope that the senate will consider and confirm the nominees in its usual expeditious manner, please accept, distinguished senate president and distinguished senators, the assurances of my highest constitutional and personal regards,” he said.
The senate president referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on Communications and directed the committee to report back within one week.
