Apple releases sixth iOS 26 beta with ringtones, camera, UI upgrades

Apple on Tuesday rolled out the sixth developer beta of iOS 26, alongside updates for iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, macOS, and other platforms, as the software heads toward its expected September public release.

While the latest build brings fewer major changes, it still offers notable updates—including new ringtones, a resolution to the Camera app swipe controversy, and refinements to Apple’s “Liquid Glass” interface.

Beta 6 introduces six new ringtones, all variations of the familiar “Reflection” tone. One in particular, dubbed “Dreamer,” is drawing praise from testers on social media, with some calling it “crazy good” and joking it may finally tempt them to switch off silent mode.

The release also settles a dispute over the Camera app’s mode-switching gesture. Earlier betas reversed the familiar swipe direction, frustrating users accustomed to Apple’s long-standing design conventions. Apple briefly offered a settings toggle to restore the old behavior in Beta 5, but in Beta 6 the toggle has been removed and the original swipe direction restored.

Interface adjustments continue for “Liquid Glass,” Apple’s updated design language. This build adds enhanced color dispersion when moving between app tabs, and extends Liquid Glass effects to the Lock Screen and control toggles. Transitions between apps are now faster, with fresh open and close animations.

Users installing the update will see a new onboarding experience that highlights iOS 26’s key changes, such as dark and clear icons and redesigned app layouts.

As with all betas, the release includes bug fixes — and possibly new glitches — but early testers say the build feels more stable and faster than previous versions. With the developer beta now live, a corresponding public beta update is expected soon.
