Passenger plane disappears from radar in Russia

A passenger aircraft operated by Siberia-based Angara Airlines went off radar on Thursday during a domestic flight in Russia’s Far East, prompting an ongoing search and rescue operation, according to local officials and Russian media reports.

The Antonov An-24 turboprop was carrying around 50 people on a flight from Blagoveshchensk to Tynda in the Amur Region—a journey spanning approximately 570 kilometers.

Conflicting reports suggest the aircraft had either 43 passengers and four crew members or 40 passengers and six crew members aboard.

Amur Region Governor, Vasily Orlov, confirmed the disappearance, stating that air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane several kilometers from its intended destination.

The incident was first reported by state media outlet RT, with additional details from Interfax.

Emergency teams have been deployed to search for the missing aircraft. No distress signal was reportedly received before the plane lost contact.
