Northern governors mourn businessman Alhaji Aminu Dantata

Governors of Nigeria’s northern states have expressed deep sorrow over the death of elder statesman, businessman, and philanthropist Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, who died at the age of 94.

In a condolence message issued on Saturday, the Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, described Dantata’s passing as a monumental loss to the nation, noting that it marked the end of an era in Nigeria’s economic and philanthropic history.

Speaking through his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, Governor Yahaya hailed the late Dantata as a visionary entrepreneur and a symbol of selfless service.

“It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of national loss that I, on behalf of the Northern States Governors’ Forum and the people of Gombe State, mourn the passing of a distinguished elder statesman and one of Africa’s most accomplished businessmen, Alhaji Aminu Dantata,” the statement read.

Governor Yahaya praised Dantata’s legacy of integrity, humility, and generosity, stating that his influence was felt both in the private sector and in national development efforts.

“Alhaji Dantata was a towering figure in Nigeria’s economic evolution. His investments and charitable works transformed many lives, especially in Northern Nigeria,” Yahaya added.

He also noted that beyond his business achievements, Dantata was a moral guide and a dependable adviser to leaders across the country. “His wisdom and counsel were invaluable. His absence will be deeply felt,” the governor said.

Governor Yahaya extended condolences to the Dantata family, the government and people of Kano State, and Nigerians as a whole. He prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and eternal rest for the deceased.

“May the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus for a lifetime of devoted service to humanity,” he concluded.

Alhaji Aminu Dantata’s death has left a significant void in Nigeria’s socio-economic and humanitarian landscape, with tributes pouring in from across the country.
