Philanthropist and Co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates, is expected in Nigeria this week for a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening the country’s primary healthcare system and advancing innovation.
During his visit, Gates is scheduled to meet with President Bola Tinubu and other key government officials as part of ongoing efforts to support Nigeria’s healthcare reforms and development initiatives.
A statement from the Gates Foundation noted that the tech billionaire will also take part in the Goalkeepers Nigeria event — a platform that highlights Africa’s progress in health, technology, and innovation.
Gates is also expected to engage with Nigerian scientists and stakeholders involved in artificial intelligence and the development of scalable health solutions across the continent.
The visit comes on the heels of a landmark announcement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where Gates pledged $200 billion in funding over the next two decades through the Gates Foundation. The investment is geared towards supporting global health and development, with a strong focus on Africa.
While addressing leaders at the African Union headquarters, Gates underscored the urgency of accelerating innovation and building strategic partnerships to meet the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
