Artificial intelligence firm OpenAI is reportedly in talks to become a major participant in a massive data center development in the United Arab Emirates, which could become one of the largest in the world, according to Bloomberg News.
The planned facility, a 5-gigawatt data center campus in Abu Dhabi, would have OpenAI as a primary anchor tenant, sources familiar with the project told Bloomberg. While OpenAI’s involvement has not yet been finalized, a formal announcement is expected in the near future.
The initiative is part of the UAE’s broader ambitions to become a global hub for AI and advanced technologies. Just a day prior, the UAE and the United States signed an agreement to establish the largest AI campus outside of the U.S.
Microsoft, a key backer of OpenAI, is also likely to play a role in the project, though details remain under wraps.
