Immigration lists 13 visa categories eligible for e-visa platform

The Nigeria Immigration Service has announced that 13 visa categories are now available for online application through its newly introduced e-visa platform.

This was disclosed by the agency via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, marking a significant step in the digital overhaul of Nigeria’s visa system in line with the 2025 Nigeria Visa Policy.

According to the statement, the new e-visa platform offers a streamlined and secure process that allows foreign nationals and Nigerians with dual citizenship to apply for, track, and obtain their visas without the need to visit embassies or consulates in person.

Applications submitted through the platform are typically processed within 48 hours.

The 13 eligible visa categories cover a range of short-stay travel purposes, including:

Tourist Visa; Business Visa; Transit Visa; Journalist Visa; Cleric Visa; Medical Visa; and Sport Visa.

Others are Entertainment Visa; Conference Visa; Missionary Visa; Student Exchange Visa; Diplomatic Visa; and Official Visa.

To apply, individuals must possess a valid passport with at least six months’ validity and submit required supporting documents, including a passport photo, travel itinerary, and documentation relevant to the purpose of travel.

Once approved, the visa is delivered electronically to the applicant’s email address.

The NIS stated that the e-visa system is part of a broader initiative to modernize and automate Nigeria’s visa management. The platform is designed to enhance transparency, boost efficiency, and strengthen security in the visa application process.

With full automation, applicants can now bypass traditional embassy visits and minimize delays associated with manual processing.

The NIS clarified that the maximum stay permitted under the e-visa scheme is 90 days, with no option for extension. Travelers intending to stay longer must apply through embassies or consulates for a suitable visa category.

“Each eligible visa category has specific requirements, and applicants are encouraged to carefully review their eligibility before applying.

The launch of this platform aligns with global trends in digital immigration services, positioning Nigeria to attract more short-term visitors through a user-friendly, secure, and efficient application process.
