Samsung’s home robot ‘Ballie’ adds Google’s Gemini AI

Samsung is teaming up with Google Cloud to bring Gemini, Google’s powerful generative AI, to its long-anticipated home robot, Ballie, the companies announced on Wednesday.

Through this partnership, Ballie will gain access to Gemini’s multimodal AI capabilities, allowing it to understand and respond to queries using both audio and video input. Samsung says users will be able to interact with the robot in more intuitive ways.

The AI-powered companion will also offer personalized health insights, such as workout ideas or sleep improvement tips, in addition to handling general knowledge questions by tapping into Gemini’s expansive dataset.

“Through this partnership, Samsung and Google Cloud are redefining the role of AI in the home,” said Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of Samsung’s visual display business. “By pairing Gemini’s powerful multimodal reasoning with Samsung’s AI capabilities in Ballie, we’re leveraging the power of open collaboration to unlock a new era of personalized AI companion — one that moves with users, anticipates their needs, and interacts in more dynamic and meaningful ways than ever before.”

Samsung has showcased various prototypes of Ballie at global tech events such as CES over the years. The company confirmed earlier this year that the robot would finally hit the consumer market in South Korea and the United States within the first half of 2025.

This latest development builds on an existing partnership between Samsung and Google. Gemini is already integrated into Samsung’s Galaxy S24 smartphones, and both companies are reportedly collaborating on an upcoming extended reality device — with Gemini AI expected to play a central role there as well.
