Nigeria tops Afreximbank beneficiaries with $52bn disbursement

Afreximbank creates payment solution to save traders $5bn

Nigeria has received about $52 billion in total disbursements from Afreximbank, making it the bank’s top beneficiary in Africa.

Afreximbank President and Board Chairman, Prof. Benedict Oramah, revealed this on Tuesday during the 2025 Annual Meetings Signing Ceremony in Abuja.

Oramah stated that Afreximbank had disbursed at least $140 billion across Africa in the past decade.

He explained that these interventions helped fill financing gaps left by withdrawing international banks, driving economic transformation and reducing Africa’s reliance on commodity exports.

He highlighted Afreximbank’s role in industrializing Africa, transforming several economies into major industrial hubs.

He noted that the bank’s interventions had supported the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement by backing the AfCFTA Secretariat and underwriting key initiatives to boost intra-African trade.

Oramah stated that Nigeria has been a major beneficiary of Afreximbank’s investments in critical sectors.

He highlighted the African Quality Assurance Centre as a key initiative designed to help Nigerian goods meet global trade standards.

Oramah thanked the Nigerian government for its support, highlighting its positive response to capital calls and efforts to remove regulatory barriers affecting the bank’s operations.

He emphasized that Nigeria’s contributions had secured its strong influence in Afreximbank, enabling it to play a key role in shaping the bank’s future.
