Bollywood’s highly anticipated Pushpa 2: The Rule has made a strong entrance in Nigerian cinemas, grossing N26.8 million during its opening weekend.
According to the latest Nigerian Box Office report, the Telugu-language action drama secured the third-highest-grossing spot of the weekend.
The sequel to Pushpa: The Rise continues the thrilling journey of its lead character, portrayed by Allu Arjun, under the direction of the acclaimed Sukumar. The film also features prominent actors like Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil, and Jagapathi Babu in key roles.
Produced by Mythri Movie Makers in collaboration with Sukumar Writings, the film had an impressive budget of ₹450 crore ($2.8 million), ranking it among the priciest Indian productions.
Released globally on December 5, 2024, Pushpa 2: The Rule has set remarkable box office records. With an extended opening weekend total of ₹829 crore (around $99 million), it has become one of the highest-grossing Indian films and the fourth-highest-grossing Telugu film ever.
Nigerian audiences have played a role in this achievement, further emphasizing Bollywood’s expanding influence beyond its traditional markets.
The sequel was officially announced ahead of the release of Pushpa: The Rise in December 2021, with the title Pushpa 2: The Rule unveiled in August 2022. Though 10% of the footage was filmed alongside the first film, the storyline was reworked, delaying principal photography until October 2022.
The film, which runs for an epic 200 minutes, is one of the longest Indian movies ever made. It features an energetic soundtrack by Devi Sri Prasad, cinematography by Mirosław Kuba Brożek, and editing by Naveen Nooli. Available in IMAX, 4DX, and PVR ICE formats, Pushpa 2 takes advantage of the latest technology for a visually stunning experience.
