President Bola Tinubu has unveiled plans to create 2.5 million jobs during his 64th Independence Day address. Tinubu announced the launch of the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme, a government initiative aimed at creating 2.5 million jobs annually.
The program will generate both direct and indirect employment opportunities across the country.
Scheduled to begin in November 2024, LEEP is designed to enhance the welfare and safety of workers in Nigeria. Tinubu described the initiative as a central pillar of his administration’s strategy to combat unemployment, to be implemented through the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.
“Later this month, we shall launch the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme,” the president said during his speech. “It is conceived as a comprehensive suite of interventions aimed at facilitating the creation of 2.5 million jobs, directly and indirectly, on an annual incremental basis, while simultaneously ensuring the welfare and safety of workers across the country.”
In addition to the employment program, President Tinubu also announced plans for a national 30-day Youth Conference. The conference will address economic challenges and ensure that young Nigerians’ voices are reflected in government policies.
“Better days are ahead for Nigeria,” Tinubu assured, urging citizens to remain hopeful despite the current economic challenges.
