The House of Representatives has referred a motion advocating for other petroleum marketers to directly lift premium motor spirit from the Dangote Refinery to a joint national assembly ad hoc committee.
This move aims to explore the implications of enhancing market access for petroleum marketers and improving competition in the sector
The motion was raised by Honourable Oboku Oforji, who argued that the commissioning of the Dangote Refinery signals Nigeria’s potential for self-sufficiency in PMS production, according to Channels News.
Oforji criticized the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for insisting on being the sole lifter of PMS from the refinery, calling this stance “greed” in light of NNPCL’s inability to maintain the nation’s existing refineries.
Additionally, Honourable Oforji urged the House to mandate NNPCL to disclose the price at which it sells crude to the Dangote Refinery and to require the refinery to reveal its PMS sales price to NNPCL.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited recently announced it has officially commenced lifting refined petrol from the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
