Apple is set to introduce a new certified hearing test with iOS 18 and AirPods Pro 2, aimed at helping users assess their hearing health.

The five-minute test, which will be available through a software update this fall, asks users to tap their smartphone screen when they hear a series of tones at varying volumes and frequencies. Developed using extensive real-world data from Apple’s hearing studies, the test creates a personalized hearing profile for each user.

The hearing profile will be stored in the Health app and can be shared with healthcare providers if desired. Additionally, the profile can work alongside a feature called Media Assist, which enhances specific speech elements during phone calls or highlights instruments in music. Apple notes that even users with normal hearing can benefit from these frequency adjustments.

The new hearing features, available in over 100 countries and regions, are part of Apple’s ongoing efforts to integrate health-focused technology into its devices, offering users greater control over their well-being.
