Apple officially launched its iPhone 16 lineup during Monday’s GlowTime event. CEO Tim Cook emphasized that the new devices are “built around Apple Intelligence from the ground up.” The company introduced the base models, alongside the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, which both boast the new A18 Chip.
The Pro models feature displays of 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively. Their bodies are crafted from grade five titanium and come in four different colors. Apple also announced a larger battery size across the lineup, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max offering the longest battery life ever in an iPhone, according to the company.
The A18 Pro chip includes a 16-core CPU, while the GPU offers twice the ray tracing speed in games compared to previous models. Apple also highlighted that the chip is more power-efficient than last year’s version and enables faster data transfer speeds via USB.
Similar to the base iPhone 16, the Pro models feature a dedicated camera button. The camera array has been updated with significantly faster shutter speeds. Both the main and ultra-wide cameras now have 48-megapixel sensors, with the ultra-wide lens capable of capturing macro images. The third camera, a telephoto lens, offers 5x “optical-quality” zoom.
Apple has enhanced camera controls with new “pro” features, providing greater control over aspects like color grading. The phones can shoot 4K video at 120 frames per second, enabling improved slow-motion recording. Notably, users can adjust the playback speed after capturing the video.
In addition, the new iPhones offer Spatial Audio recording, enhanced by “studio-quality” microphones. Users can switch between audio mixes after recording, allowing them to isolate in-frame audio while reducing ambient noise.
