The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced that the Labour union has shut down the national grid, causing a blackout as a nationwide strike begins.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the General Manager of Public Affairs on Monday.
In the statement, TCN said that the national grid shutdown occurred at about 2.19 am Monday, 3rd June 2024.
Beginning with the Benin transmission operator, other substations in Ganmo, Ayede, Olorunsogo, Akangba, and Osogbo were also affected by the shutdown.
According to TCN, some of the generating plants of various electricity generating stations were forced to shut down.
At about 3.23 am Monday, TCN, however, claims to have started grid recovery and is making an effort to fill the transmission lines that supply the Katampe Transmission Substation with bulk electricity using the Shiroro Substation.
TCN assures that it will continue to work toward grid recovery and stabilization to guarantee the return of regular bulk power transmission to distribution load centers across the country.
The organised labour had declared a nationwide strike, which began on Monday, June 3, 2024, over the Federal Government’s refusal to raise the proposed minimum wage from N60,000.
