In an effort to address the state’s recurring flood catastrophes, the Jigawa State Government is about to create the Permanent Flood Disaster Emergency Trust Fund.
This declaration was delivered by Governor Mallam Umar Namadi on Friday at the Government House at the formation of a flood disaster management committee.
One of the committee’s most important responsibilities is to complete the creation of the Flood Disaster Emergency Trust Fund. Arc. Aminu Kani is leading this group.
Governor Namadi emphasized the need for prompt action on outstanding concerns from the previous committee’s report, while expressing pleasure with the progress achieved in resolving the flood catastrophe occurrence of 2022.
Honouring the previous committee’s initiatives, which raised more than N1.1 billion and helped over than 34,000 victims, Governor Namadi outlined the objective of the Trust Fund as a first-resort emergency response for rehabilitation and relief to disaster victims on a sustainable basis.
Governor Namadi expressed trust in the committee’s competence and promised to provide the necessary logistical assistance to ensure that their responsibilities are completed effectively and within the allotted two months.
The Governor committed to ensuring that the Trust Fund’s legislation is implemented in compliance with the law when it is enacted and ratified.
A permanent arrangement would be quickly formed to guarantee the appropriate take-up of the Trust Fund in accordance with the law, according to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Jigawa State, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel.
