The Lagos State Government has announced plans to extend the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line to FESTAC, Alakija and Trade Fair, with three new stations scheduled to commence operations by the end of February 2027.
The Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Abimbola Akinajo, disclosed this at the 2026 Media Parley organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, according to a statement released by the agency on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
The expansion will increase the number of operational stations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Blue Line from five to eight, extending the existing Marina–Mile 2 service further along the Lagos-Badagry corridor.
Akinajo said the expansion would improve access to rail transportation for residents along the FESTAC, Alakija and Trade Fair corridor, providing commuters with an alternative to road travel while improving connectivity between communities.
The three additional stations are expected to become operational in the first quarter of 2027, with the end of February set as the target deadline for their opening.
Beyond the rail expansion, Akinajo disclosed that work on four Quality Bus Corridors was nearing completion.
Construction of the Marina and Mile 2 Interchange Hubs has also made significant progress, as the state intensifies efforts to improve public transportation infrastructure.
The projects are designed to integrate rail and bus services, making it easier for commuters to transfer between different modes of public transportation.
The developments are expected to improve connectivity across Lagos and support the state government’s broader efforts to expand its rail network and strengthen the infrastructure needed to improve urban mobility.
