The federal government has announced the relocation of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria from Abuja to Lagos.
FAAN’s managing director and chief executive officer, Olubunmi Kuku, stated this in a circular dated January 15, 2024.
According to Kuku, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo, gave the order to relocate the headquarters to Lagos.
In the letter, the minister directed that the effects of the relocation be communicated to management promptly.
It reads: “The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development has directed that the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria headquarters be relocated from Abuja to Lagos.
“Consequence of the aforementioned, you are requested to provide the implications of the relocation to the management.”
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria was created in 1976 as the Airports Authority of Nigeria.
However, the Civil Aviation Reform of 1995 resulted in the restructuring of some of NAA’s functions as well as its renaming to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.
The Authority is in charge of overseeing the operation and maintenance of all federal airports.
The Authority’s headquarters were originally located in Lagos. However, in 2020, then-President Muhammadu Buhari relocated it to Abuja.
