A new restriction has been added by X, formerly known as Twitter, that only allows verified accounts to reply. However, the power is not only available to premium accounts.
Non-X Premium subscribers have the option of disabling non-verified people from leaving comments on their posts.
Within hours of the feature’s release, Elon Musk stated that this additional control “should help a bot with spam bots.”
In 2020, Twitter first made the option to restrict replies to “Accounts you follow” or “Only accounts you mention” available. However, users could only select this option prior to posting a tweet at the time. Twitter expanded the functionality of the feature in 2021 to enable user control of replies after a tweet had been sent.
Even though replies to a post are limited, users can still quote it.
By including prioritised ranking in chat and search as one of the membership benefits, X already offers verified accounts priority. X is now enabling premium users to get noticed more with the new control to limit replies to only verified accounts.
