The Match Group, the parent company of dating app Tinder and the live streaming service Twitch, has been fined by the Russian Justice on Monday for refusing to locate the servers containing the personal information of Russian users in Russia.
According to judicial sources, Justice of the Peace Timur Vajrameyev of Moscow’s 422nd District penalized Twitch with 13 million rubles, about 135,000 dollars, and Match Group with 10 million rubles, just over $96,000, in separate hearings.
Due to their repeated refusals to locate servers containing the personal information of Russian users in Russia, as required by the nation’s law, both firms were found guilty of administrative misconduct.
Twitch paid a fine of 2 million rubles (approximately $35,000 at the time) in June 2022 for the same offence.
Match Group received the same-sized fine a month later for the same offense.
After the Kremlin began its “military campaign” in Ukraine on February 24, the owner of Tinder declared that the company was leaving the country.
The company finally exited on June 30 after banning payment options for Russian users for more than a year.
