Sahara, others encourage recycling through cash for waste initiative

Go-Recycling, an innovative project sponsored by the Sahara Group Foundation, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, and Wecyclers, now allows residents of Lagos State to receive cash rewards for their recyclable waste products.

According to a statement issued by Sahara, the project, which aims to promote sustainable environmental practices throughout Lagos State, has so far launched four recycling exchange centers in the state, with a total of 12 anticipated to be constructed by the end of the year.

The Director of Sahara Group Foundation, Ejiro Grey, expressed her excitement over the project’s success, noting that the Go-Recycling project was destined to influence lives and communities throughout Lagos.

She urged Lagosians to participate in the program by visiting the waste exchange centers and exchanging their waste for great rewards.

Grey further stated, “The momentum seen since the launch of the first hub in Ikotun is inspiring, and the project’s impact on people and the environment will be visible to all.”

“Through this initiative, the Sahara Group Foundation and its partners, LSETF and Wecyclers, are helping to raise awareness about recycling and promote its adoption.” You, too, can contribute to a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Lagos by making a conscious effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle.”

According to her, the hubs are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the following locations: Isolo LCDA, Osolo Way, Aswani Road; Igando-Ikotun LCDA, Ikotun-Idimu Road, Off Egbe Road; Lagos Island LCDA, 173 Adeniji Adele Road; and Onigbogbon LCDA, 30 Kudira Abiola Way, Oregun, Ikeja.

“Hub representatives are available on-site to receive recyclables, provide guidance, and share insight on how recycling can help transform our lives and have a long-term impact on our environment,” Grey added.
