Co-founder of Photoshop creator, Adobe John Warnock, has passed away on Saturday at the age of 82, the business announced in a statement early on Sunday.
His death’s cause wasn’t made public.
Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen wrote in an email to staff, “It is a sad day for the Adobe community and the industry for which he has been an inspiration for decades.
Warnock and Charles Geschke founded Adobe together in 1982. He left his role as CEO in 2000 and held the joint chairmanship of the board alongside Geschke until 2017.
Prior to founding Adobe, Warnock worked as a principal scientist at Xerox Palo Alto Research Centre before inventing Adobe. He also had roles at Evans & Sutherland Computer, Computer Sciences Corp., IBM, and the University of Utah.
Warnock graduated from the University of Utah with a doctorate in electrical engineering, a master’s degree in mathematics, and a bachelor’s degree in both mathematics and philosophy.
MaWarnock is survived by his wife, Marva, and three children.
