The Indian government has suspended the law that directed all PC makers to obtain a licence before importing their equipment days after.
The start of the permit programme was absolutely unanticipated, and it is said to have caused Samsung and Apple to stop shipping products.
The licencing plan was updated on Friday by India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade, delaying the deadline for manufacturers to apply for a licence until October 31. The change is referred to in the agreement as “liberal transitional arrangements.”
Given that product shipments were almost definitely already headed to India, the demand that the launch of the scheme take immediate effect was obviously challenging.
The sudden suspension of the programme is embarrassing for the Indian government, yet the requirement of import licences may have been successful: Following the announcement, 44 hardware manufacturers reportedly registered to investigate incentive programmes that support manufacturing in India, according to Indian media.
