Egypt startup Buguard secures $500k seed funding

Egypt, Cairo-based cybersecurity firm specializing in offensive security services, Buguard, has successfully raised a substantial $500,000 in seed funding.

This strategic injection of capital will play a pivotal role in advancing Buguard’s operations, with a key focus on team expansion, product enhancement, sales growth, and forging valuable channel partnerships.

The funding round was spearheaded by A15, a prominent venture capital force in the MENA region renowned for its investment acumen in early-stage startups.

Complementing A15’s backing, several angel investors participated, solidifying Buguard’s positioning as an emerging force in the cybersecurity domain.

Buguard’s core offerings encompass an array of offensive security services, ranging from penetration testing and vulnerability assessment to phishing simulation, threat intelligence, and red teaming.

Notably, this funding marks Buguard’s first foray into external financing, having bootstrapped its operations since its inception in 2021.

Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Buguard, Youseff Mohamed, expressed his gratitude for A15’s belief in the company’s potential.

He proudly highlighted Buguard’s elite team, which includes world-class security researchers and engineers at the forefront of innovation.

While Buguard already boasts a global clientele, Mohamed outlined the company’s strategic priority of expanding within the Gulf Cooperation Council, encompassing nations such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman.

He emphasized Buguard’s forthcoming entry into the Saudi Arabian market in 2023, fueled by the funding infusion.

Since its establishment, Buguard has collaborated with prominent Egyptian enterprises like Paymob, Fawry, and EFG-Hermes.

Its global footprint extends to the United States, Saudi Arabia, France, Australia, Japan, UK, Singapore, and UAE, serving as a testament to the company’s impact on a global scale.

A15 General Partner, Karim Beshara, lauded Buguard’s domain expertise and underscored the imperative for businesses to proactively safeguard against evolving cyber threats.

In tandem with its funding achievement, Buguard unveiled Dark Atlas, a cutting-edge SaaS product designed for dark web monitoring and account takeover protection.

The dark web’s shadowy realms have spurred the need for vigilance, and Dark Atlas empowers clients by monitoring third-party threats, C-level emails, and potential phishing attacks.
