Twitter stated that it is limiting the number of daily direct messages that unverified users can send in order to cut down on spam.

An announcement on the Help Centre states that the restriction became effective on Friday.

The social media giant is encouraging users to sign up for Twitter Blue, a subscription service it introduced last year, in order to enhance the amount of daily tweets a user can send.

Users who pay will display more prominently in replies and in Twitter’s “For You” stream, which suggests messages to users.

Twitter Blue, according to Elon Musk, is a strategy to increase revenue and stave off bots and trolls.

Twitter announced last week that effective of July 14, it will add a messaging setting that would direct communications from people a user follows to their main inbox.

The request inbox would receive messages from verified users that the person does not follow. Since the restriction, the quantity of spam messages reaching users’ private inboxes has decreased by 70%, according to Twitter Support.
