The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari has officially opened the Dangote refinery, which is powered by a 435 MW power plant according to information released by the Dangote Group last week.
Nairametrics reported that the integrated refinery project, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, is entirely off the grid, and has its own independent power plant. A power plant with a 435-megawatt capacity powers the refinery.
According to reports, the Dangote refinery uses around 15% more energy than is typically produced today on the grid. The Ibadan electricity distribution company’s power plant has the capacity to serve all of the states.
The reports show that the installation of eight gas turbines and four steam turbines combined for a total of 570 MW of power generation is part of the power infrastructure for the Dangote refinery each of the eight gas turbines capable of producing 34.5 MW/110 tons of steam per hour.
The Dangote refinery and global energy management expert Schneider Electric signed a contract in August 2017 for the provision of full process automation systems, solutions, and services to the refinery.
In accordance with the contract, Schneider Electric provided its EcoStruxure system architecture and platform, which includes its EcoStruxure Foxboro distributed control system, Triconex process safety solutions, PIONIR analytical fuel blending systems, and a collection of SimSci and Wonderware software solutions, including its unified supply chain management and operations management software.
At the Dangote refinery, improvements in supply chain and operational efficiency, dependability, and profitability are anticipated to result from all of these solutions.
