X is broadening access to its AI-powered chatbot, Grok, enabling users to mention it in replies to ask questions and receive explanations about posts.
The expansion, noted by multiple users, marks a step toward deeper AI integration within the Elon Musk-owned platform.
Previously, Grok was accessible via a sidebar button and a dedicated option next to posts, allowing users to receive AI-generated explanations of text and images—a feature introduced last year.
The new tagging functionality mirrors an AI-powered search engine approach, similar to Perplexity’s automated X account, which has been providing users with post-related answers through automated replies.
AI developers across the industry are making similar moves to increase user engagement. Meta, for instance, has embedded its Llama-powered Meta AI chatbot into Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Messenger, while also launching a standalone website and reportedly working on a dedicated app.
Until recently, Grok was primarily available within X. However, xAI has been expanding its reach with a standalone app on iOS and Android, a dedicated website, and the introduction of a SuperGrok plan, which offers features like unlimited image generation and early access to new tools.
