Wireless festival cancelled after Kanye West barred from UK

This year’s Wireless Festival has been called off after headliner Kanye West was barred from entering the United Kingdom.

Authorities denied West — now known as Ye — permission to enter the UK following backlash over his scheduled performance at this summer’s London festival.

In recent years, the rapper has sparked widespread outrage over a series of antisemitic, racist, and pro-Nazi remarks.

In a statement, Wireless Festival announced its cancellation and confirmed that all ticket holders would receive full refunds.

The organisers said they had consulted “multiple stakeholders” prior to booking Kanye West, adding that no issues were raised at the time.

“Antisemitism in all its forms is abhorrent, and we recognise the real and personal impact these issues have had.

“As Ye said today, he acknowledges that words alone are not enough, and in spite of this still hopes to be given the opportunity to begin a conversation with the Jewish community in the UK, ” it added.

Presale tickets for Wireless Festival went live at midday on Tuesday and are understood to have sold out, with general sales scheduled to begin at midday on Wednesday.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Home Office told the BBC that the rapper had submitted an application on Monday to travel to the UK using an Electronic Travel Authorisation.

The department said the request was denied on the basis that his presence would not be conducive to the public good.

Travellers to the UK must obtain an ETA if they do not require a visa for short visits of up to six months and do not already hold UK immigration status.
