Nigeria is the most competitive culinary tourist destination in Africa, according to the Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, Alhaji Nura Kangiwa, because of its diverse ethnic population and distinctive culinary tradition.
“Culinary Arts – The Gateway to Growing Tourism Destination” was the theme of the third edition of the Gastronomy Festival, which was held in Abuja on Saturday.
He continued by noting that the country had assumed the top spot in Africa for gastronomic tourism destinations and that the institution will keep supporting the government’s efforts to maintain the pace.
The most popular culinary tourist destination in Africa is Nigeria. The diversity of our ethnic groups and the related distinctive cuisine culture are evidence of this.
“The display of contemporary meals demonstrates the diversity of Nigerian cuisines.
“Gastronomy is a cultural expression of a nation through its food preferences, ingredient sources, and types of cuisines, as it typically flourishes in culturally diverse places like Nigeria.”
The director-general claimed that Nigerian cuisines are an accurate representation of the country’s gastronomic riches and beauty.
The source of the country’s identity, according to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, Dr. Ngozi Owundiwe, is cuisine because of its role in the growth of tourism.
Owundiwe stated, represented by the Director of Domestic Tourism in the ministry, Mrs. Patricia Narai, stated: “Nigerian cuisines identify us as a nation, as well as expressing the wonderful tale of our people.
“It has quickly developed into a significant and expanding portion of our Gross Domestic Product contribution to all emerging countries worldwide.”
