WhatsApp announced on Thursday that users now have the ability to pin up to three messages in a chat for easier access.
Previously, users were limited to pinning only one message at the top of a conversation with a contact or a group.
Both Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and WhatsApp head Will Cathcart revealed this feature through their respective WhatsApp Channels. The chat app initially introduced the option to pin a message in one-on-one and group conversations last December.
Users can pin various types of messages, including text, images, and polls. Pinned messages can be particularly helpful for quickly accessing important information such as a friend’s address or the venue for a planned outing with a group.
To pin a message, users need to long-press on it and select “Pin” from the menu. Additionally, they can choose the duration for the message to remain pinned—options include 24 hours, 7 days (the default choice), and 30 days. This feature allows users to unpin messages when the information becomes irrelevant after a certain period.
However, there is no option to permanently keep a message, such as an address, pinned. Therefore, users will need to re-pin such messages every 30 days. Alternatively, they can “Star” a message and access it through the contact information menu.
