Instant messaging platform, WhatsApp is back up after a massive outage Wednesday, which left billions of users in distress.
The downtime of the Meta-owned app affected users’ ability to contact friends and family on a global scale.
“We are working quickly to resolve the connectivity issues on WhatsApp and we’ll update you here as soon as possible,” WhatsApp tweeted in reaction to the downtime.
A few minutes later, it tweeted again, “and we are back, happy chatting!”
The outage was over in less than an hour, according to DownDetector, a website that tracks online issues, which revealed issues began around 4 pm ET.

There are 2.7 billion monthly active users of WhatsApp, but it is unclear how many of them have been affected by the outage.
